Most families operate with a set of rules or beliefs that are unconscious, unspoken and unintentional. For the Lee Family, it's better to say these things out loud and establish them with awareness.
We balance our lives with work and play.
We treat others kindly.
There is no hitting in our house. If hitting happens, you have to say sorry and mean it.
Everyone has jobs to do.
Put things back where you found them. If you make a mess, you clean it up.
Be a good listener. You don't have to agree and you're welcome to discuss things, but please listen.
Use words to express your feelings – not screams.
When we talk to each other, we look each other in the eye.
Solo activities are great, but we need to be careful about how often we choose tv, computer or reading. Sundays are our “screen free” days.
When we're all around at meal time, we eat sitting down together.
If you don't like a certain food, you don't have to eat it all, but you do have to try one bite.
Sharing is a great thing. Taking turns makes everyone happy. “Please may I have a turn next?” is the right way to ask.
We can talk about anything.
Learning new things is fabulous. We love curiosity.
We think about how we spend our money and believe in saving.
We value nature and make decisions that are good for our environment.
We are neither better nor worse than anyone else – we are just ourselves and that is special.
Being loving and expressive is perfect.
