2009 - Nourish

Each year, I set a "theme" or guiding principle and 2009 is going to be all about nourishment.

Dictionary.com provides the following definitions

Nourish
1. to sustain with food or nutriment; supply with what is necessary for life, health, and growth.
2. to cherish, foster, keep alive, etc.: He had long nourished the dream of living abroad.
3. to strengthen, build up, or promote: to nourish discontent among the workers; to nourish the arts in one's community.

I am specifically thinking about the second and third points. Cherish, foster, keep alive, strengthen, build up and promote. Don't those sound lovely?

2009 will be about studying, researching, loving, guiding, honoring, focusing - all wrapped up within the idea of nourishment. Keeping one word in front of me all year long allows me to stay on track. I can make decisions based on one question now - does this nourish me or those I love? If so, full throttle ahead. If not, maybe another time.

May 2009 bring you much nourishment for your mind, body, spirit and soul.

I liked this post. I thought about it for a few weeks and came up with a word that I want to focus on for this year:

Vigilance

Vigilance for my health. Vigilance about how I spend my time. Vigilance about my kids and their well-being. Vigilance about my marriage.

Is this focusing on one of our well-being? Is this furthering my goals? If not, then I need to be vigilant and stay on my path.

I think vigilant is very powerful - your family is surely going to stay on track with you watching out. I think it's easy to get swayed by outside forces and you will surely stay grounded with "vigilant" in mind.
