We Must Disenthrall Ourselves

In his annual message to Congress in 1862, Abraham Lincoln said
The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise -- with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disentrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.

I was going to make some politically charged comment about disenthralling ourselves of consumerism, greed, the need to win, obsession with physical beauty etc .... but I think I'll just stay quiet.

More sane people need to speak up. Don't be quite about it.
